![]() ![]() That album spawned the hit singles "Kryptonite," "Loser," and "Duck and Run," setting the band firmly on the road to mainstream success. Mississippi rockers 3 Doors Down didn't waste any time climbing the ladder of rock-and-roll success, selling more than six million copies of their first studio album, 2000's The Better Life. The tickets were cheap, so I'm still glad I went and saw Candlebox, but I thought the 3 Doors Down at sounded awful and turned me off of the band. Didn't feel like I belonged in that crowd. ![]() In addition, the vibe and image I'd had of the bad from years ago, the emotional depth and compassion, was replaced by a weird, political, churchy intent. It was like being in a high school gym and listening to music over their crappy sound system. By that point the energy of the crowd was completely extinguished. At one point the crowd starts chanting "Turn it up"but that didn't help.Įventually after more than half the show, someone yelled and the singer heard them say turn it up and so I guess they made some change because it got a little louder. I kept looking at the sound booth guys thinking they'd likely notice and make adjustments, but nada. Oddly, the drum kit was shrouded behind plastic panels, so that was not helping, but al the music was dampened. Well then 3 Doors Down come out and I thought something must be wrong with the sound system. Candlebox sounded really good, good vibe, all that. After Candlebox, I was really looking forward to 3 Doors Down.
